"an outstanding debut by talented newcomer Levine. She has...deepened our appreciation of the original tale"
-ALA Newberry Section Committee

-ALAN (Assembly for Literature for Adolescents of the National Council of Teachers of English)

Movie
In 2004, the novel was made into a movie starring Anne Hathaway. It had received mixed reviews, and it did not do quite so well at the box office.
"Hathaway is a charming heroine, but the simple storyline gets overwhelmed by silly gimmickry."
