Ella Enchanted
Characters
Ella was born with a curse. The fairy Lucinda placed it upon her when she was born. Her mother tells Ella that she must keep this curse a secret. She fills very isolated as to that she does not have any friends. When she does make a friend, she tries to keep them close as best she can. "It was very cheering to have a friend" (72). Although, she tries to distance herself from them at times because of her curse. Ella is still able to be kind and selfless to others.
Ella
Prince Charmont, or Char, is sweet, funny, and really is "charming", like you read in all those fairy tale books. Char is the Prince of Kyrria. Prince Charmont described by Sir Stephan "Too steady, maybe. Too serious, maybe. He laughs when there's something to laugh at, but he doesn't play enough. … He laughed more in a morning with you than in two weeks with us" (116). Prince Char does not know about Ella's curse, although there are moments where he has his suspicions.

Sir Peter
Sir Peter is described as "only a person on the outside and that his insides were ashes mixed with coins and a brain” (20). He only married Ella's mother for money, and does the same to Dame Olga. Sir Peter only cares about his wealth, as opposed to the well being of his daughter. Actually, he does not even know about Ella's curse.
Lady Eleanor
Ella's birth mother. Lady Eleanor is very kind and sweet. She tells Ella not tell anyone about her curse for she is worried that people will take advantage of her. Lady Eleanor dies when Ella is 15 years old from an illness that they both had. She refused to eat the unicorn hair that was in her soup. At her funeral, Lady Eleanor is described by other citizens as a "dutiful parent, loyal citizen, steadfast spouse" (14).
Dame Olga
After Lady Eleanor's funeral, Sir Peter decides to court Dame Olga. He is not in love with her, more he is in love with her money. Still, Dame Olga has a lot of control over him and Ella. Once she finds out that Sir Peter does not have any money, Dame Olga begins to treat Ella badly. She treats her even worse when she finds about the curse. Much like Hattie, Dame Olga begins to use Ella's curse to her advanatage. "The curse would make Hattie and Dame Olga as grand as they wanted to be..." (231).
Hattie and Olive
Hattie and Olive are Dame Olga's daughters. Hattie being the oldest of the two, she is very controling and manipulative. Described as "A giant couldn’t eat half a leg of a deer plus a huge mound of wild rice and eight of the fifty quail eggs and go back for dessert. But Hattie could” (22). She is the first to find out that Ella must be obedient when told to do something, so she uses it to her advangtage to get what she wants. Hattie does have a secret of her own. She wears wigs. Ella is the only one to know about it.
Olive being the youngest is described as being a "simpleton" (33). She tries to control Ella once she founds out about the curse, but it does not work in her favor. Olive is actually kinder to Ella, especially after her mother marries Sir Peter.
Areida
Ella meets Areida in finishing school. Areida teaches Ellla her native language, Ayorthaian. She is the first to show kindeness towards Ella. Hattie orders Ella to no longer be friends with Areida, and so she decides to run away. "I'd thought of injuries, and I'd imagined terrible embarrassment, but I'd never thought of this kind of hurt" (85).
Char runs into Areida and he says to her that Ella is in engaged to someone else. Areida, being a loyal friend, tells him that it is not true. She is one of Ella's true friends, and she wants to keep it that way.
Mandy
In the beginning, Mandy is seen as the chef of Ella's household. She is very caring and takes on the sort of motherly role after Lady Eleanor dies. Mandy reveals to Ella that she is her fairy godmother, in fact, she has been part of the family on Lady Eleanor's side for generations. She tells Ella that she kept her true nature a secret because "People know we can do magic, so they want us to solve their problems for them. When we don't, they get mad. The other reason is we're immortal. That gets them mad too" (28).
Lucinda
Lucinda is the one who placed the curse upon Ella when she was born. By other fairies, she is described as "the only one who's rude enough and stupid enough" (28). Lady Eleanor attempts to get the curse lifted from Ella, but Lucinda can't seem to remember on how to remove the spell. Ella and Mandy do the something with little success. It is revealed later that Lucinda has a curse on herself. She is cursed with not being obedient, in which means she can not be order to do something. This causes her to make her spells unsuccessful.
