Once Upon a Time...

Ella of Frell is born in the country of Kyrria.  On the day of her birth, she receives a gift from a fairy named Lucinda.  Only this gift does not contain beauty or intelligence, no it’s more of a curse to be obedient.  Now that Ella has received this curse she must always do what help order her to do.

Lady Eleanor, Ella’s mother, tries to protect her from others, and tells Ella that this curse must remain a secret.  Ella’s mother was protective of her until the day she died, that was when Ella was fifteen years old.  Everyone attends Lady Eleanor’s funeral, including Prince Charmont of Kyrria.  Ella meets Prince Charmont, or Char, and he takes a liking to Ella as she reminds him of her mother.  They become friends and play around with each other, until Ella’s father, Sir Peter, sends her to finishing school, along with Dame Olga’s daughters, Hattie and Olive.  Before she departs, Ella finds out that the cook, Mandy is her fairy godmother, and gives her book to where she communicate with her by writing letters.

One the way to the finishing school, Hattie is able to discover Ella’s curse and uses it to her advantage, even having Ella give Hattie her mother’s necklace.  While at the school, Ella meets Areida, and they become friends. Hattie does not approve of this, so she orders Ella to not be friends with her anymore.  Unable to hurt Areida’s feelings, Ella runs away from the school.

After her escape, Ella and Char reunite, to which they encounter elves, ogres, and giants.  It is at a Giant’s wedding that Ella see her father again. Having noticed that she escaped, Sir Peter sends Ella back to the manor.

Her father marries Dame Olga not long after her return home, but Sir Peter leaves again to seek more fortune.  Dame Olga finds out about Ella’s curse, and turns her into a servant for the household, thus confining her to the home.  Char and Ella still correspond with one another through letters, and Ella is able to read his journal entries through the book Mandy gave her.

Hattie wanting Char for herself tells him that Ella ran off to marry someone else. Char becomes heartbroken, and his father decides to organize three balls, so he can find his son someone to marry.  Wanting to see Char herself, Ella is able to leave the manor and attend the ball in disguise.  She comes across Char, and he falls in love with the masked Ella.  The night of the last ball, Ella’s identity is revealed and everyone pressures her to marry Char.  Unable to see him be damaged by her curse, Ella declines his proposal.  Thus, magically the curse has been broken because of her selfless act.  Char and Ella marry, and they lived happily ever after.
